On September 3, 2023, the Master of the Order, Br. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, appointed Br. Fernando Delgado Flórez, OP, as his Socius for Latin America and the Caribbean. Br. Fernando is from the Vice-Province of Bolivia and succeeds br. Juan Manuel Hernández Hernández, OP, who has been appointed Socius for Fraternal Life and Formation.
Born in El Playón, Santander, Colombia, on September 7, 1971, br. Fernando entered the Province of San Luis Bertrán de Colombia in 1993 and made his religious profession on July 3, 1994. In 2001 he joined the then Brother Vicente Bernedo Vicariate in Bolivia (a part of the Teutonia Province) and was ordained priest on November 3, 2006 in the Cathedral of San Lorenzo de Santa Cruz de La Sierra. He has a degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Santo Tomás de Bogotá and a degree in Spiritual Theology from the Catholic University of Bolivia.
Brother Fernando has carried out various pastoral ministries, serving as director of the postulancy (2008-2009), Master of Students (2010) of the Dominicans in Bolivia, Vicar Provincial of the Vicariate Fray Vicente Bernedo de Teutonia (2011-2012), Vice-Provincial of the Vice-Province of Bolivia (2013-2016), and superior of the Casa La Santa Cruz, “La Mansion” (2019-2021). He also served as secretary of the Interprovincial Conference of the Dominicans of Latin America and the Caribbean (CIDALC) (2019 – 2021). In January 2022, he was appointed parish priest of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Pampagrande, in the Province of Florida in Bolivia where he ministered until his appointment as Socius of the Master of the Order for Latin America and the Caribbean in August 2023.
