On June 8, Pentecost Sunday, Br. Cristóbal Torres Iglesias, OP, General Promoter of the Dominican Laity, met with members of the Lay Fraternities of Holy Name Province in the United States at St. Dominic Parish, the Province’s first foundation, established in 1854 in Benicia, California. The gathering began with the praying of Lauds, followed by the celebration of the Eucharist for Pentecost, presided by Br. Andrew Opsahl, OP. A lunch in the parish hall followed, with a presentation and dialogue with Br. Cristóbal, OP. Afterwards, participants visited the Province’s cemetery, St. Dominic, where they prayed for the repose of the Province’s friars, nuns, sisters, lay Dominicans, and relatives who, over the past two centuries, have been laid to rest there. Approximately 50 Lay Dominicans from the area participated, accompanied by Br. Augustine Hilander, Provincial Promoter of the LFSD, Br. Vincent Serpa, and members of the Provincial Lay Council.
