As we approach October, the month of the holy Rosary, we recall the words of our brother Pope Pius V: “And so Dominic looked to that simple way of praying and beseeching God, accessible to all and wholly pious, which is called the Rosary, or Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in which the same most Blessed Virgin is venerated by the angelic greeting” (Consueverunt Romani, 17 September 1569). An important part of our mission to preach the Gospel is promoting and praying the rosary, which contemplates the mysteries of the Incarnate Word.
For many years, the people in Haiti have been subjected to violent atrocities and human rights violation, incessant killings, kidnappings, sexual assaults, human trafficking, and forced labour. These have greatly impacted members of the Dominican Family, including their ability to meet physically, while others had to leave the country for safety reasons. Details of the situation in Haiti will be provided in the coming weeks.
On September 8, 2024, the Master of the Order, Bro Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, appointed Bro Pavel Syssoev, OP, son of the Dominican Province of Toulouse, as Socius of the Master for the Provinces of Europe (I).
Bro Pavel together with Bro Thomas are the new Socii of the Master for the Provinces of Europe. A special thanks to Bro Miguel Angel del Rio, OP and Bro Alain Arnould, OP, for having served in these offices.
Bro Pavel Syssoev was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1977. After studying philosophy in Russia and at the Sorbonne in France, he worked as a lecturer. He joined the Dominican Province of Toulouse in 2002. He taught in the friars’ studium and in seminaries, preached numerous retreats and the Rosary pilgrimage in 2020. He was prior of Bordeaux and then Marseille, socius to the provincial of his province. He joined the community of Sainta Sabina in May 2024.
On September 8, 2024, the Master of the Order, Bro Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, appointed Bro Thomas Gabriel Brogl, OP, son of the Province of St. Albert in Germany and Austria, as Socius of the Master for the Provinces of Europe (II).
On 30 August 2024, during the elective Chapter of the Province of India, held at Satyagiri, Dominican Retreat Center, Brother Peter Mendonsa, OP, then Superior of the community of St. Dominic in Delhi, was elected Prior Provincial. On the same day, he was confirmed by the Master of the Order, Br. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, with the signature of his vicar, Br. Pablo Carlos Sicouly, OP, and on the same day accepted this office. Br. Peter succeeds Br. Prasad George, OP, who served as Provincial for a term beginning in 2020.
