Standing Commission of the Dominican Cooperator Brothers and Theological Commission continue to respond to the needs of the Church and the Order

The Standing Commission for the Vocation of the Dominican Cooperator Brothers and the Theological Commission continue to work for the renewal of the vocation and ministry of the Dominican Cooperator Brothers. This work is a response to the urgent needs of the Church and the Order to be missionary disciples in accordance with the vision and charism of St. Dominic when founding our Order.

The work of the two Commissions also seeks to address the continuing decline in vocations, a phenomenon being experienced by many Orders and Congregations in recent years, as noted in a report submitted by fr Ignatius Perkins, OP, President of the Permanent Commission for the Dominican Cooperator Brother Vocation. The report was prepared from statistics provided by the Office of the Secretary General of the Curia representing data submitted by provinces, vice-provinces and vicariates.

According to the report, as of 31 December 2023, in the 44 provinces, vice-provinces and vicariates of the Order, there were 239 co-operator brothers: 222 solemnly professed, 16 simply professed and 1 novice.

The Directory of Cooperator Brothers provides valuable statistics from 1980 to 2023 on age, years of profession and ministries.  At the meetings of the commission, statistical data are reviewed and updated. The Standing Commission for the Dominican Cooperator Brother Vocation invites young people who are interested in this vocation to contact a vocation promoter in their country.
