The General Curia of the Order of Preachers is saddened to announce the death of Bro Amirtha Raj Mannes, OP, Socius of the Master of the Order for Asia and the Pacific.
Bro Amirtha Raj died of a heart attack on the morning of Thursday 27 January. He was in the community of Mangalore, India, giving a formation session to the postulants of the province.
His funeral will be held on Saturday 29 January 2022 at St. Dominic’s Church, Ashoknagar, Mangalore, at 15:00 local time (10:00 Rome time). His body will be laid to rest in the Urwa Church Cemetery, Mangalore.
Bro Amirtha Raj was born on 21 March 1953, made his profession in the Order of Preachers on 20 June 1974 and was ordained priest on 26 October 1980. He served with three provincials on the provincial council of the Province of India, was a formator in all stages of institutional formation in his province, a teacher in more than half a dozen diocesan seminaries and animator of the Dominican Common Studies Programme in the Asia Pacific Region. He was also parish priest in five parishes, worked for the Conference of Religious and for different dioceses in India.
The Master of the Order, fr Gerard Francisco Timoner III, appointed him Socius for the Asia Pacific Region on 21 November 2019.
