Brother Timothy Radcliffe, OP, to Young Dominican Friars in Vietnam on Becoming Missionaries within the Order

During the annual retreat for the brothers at the Studium of the Vietnam Province of the Order, Brother Joseph Quy Nguyen, OP, wrote a letter to Brother Timothy Radcliffe, OP, asking him to share his thoughts on the role of young Dominican brothers in the as missionaries in the Order. In response to this request, Br Timothy sent the brothers a letter in which he encouraged them to be ready to be sent forth to “preach the Gospel to the whole world.”

The Promoter General for the Laity visited the fraternities of Cochabamba on August 21, the Church of Santo Domingo in Potosi on August 22 and 23; and the fraternities and the MJD of the Parish and Convent of Santo Domingo in Santa Cruz de la Sierra August 24 to 27. Br Cristobal also preached at the Sunday Mass at La Mansion in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on 25 August.

As we approach October, the month of the holy Rosary, we recall the words of our brother Pope Pius V: “And so Dominic looked to that simple way of praying and beseeching God, accessible to all and wholly pious, which is called the Rosary, or Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in which the same most Blessed Virgin is venerated by the angelic greeting” (Consueverunt Romani, 17 September 1569). An important part of our mission to preach the Gospel is promoting and praying the rosary, which contemplates the mysteries of the Incarnate Word.

For many years, the people in Haiti have been subjected to violent atrocities and human rights violation, incessant killings, kidnappings, sexual assaults, human trafficking, and forced labour. These have greatly impacted members of the Dominican Family, including their ability to meet physically, while others had to leave the country for safety reasons. Basil Cole, OP, a son of St. Joseph Province (USA), who was ordained priest in 1966, obtained a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome – Angelicum and held various teaching and formation positions, received the degree of Master in Sacred Theology (Magister in Sacra Theologia) of the Order of Preachers, which was conferred on him by the Master of the Order, Bro Gerard Timoner III, OP, in 2023.
