The capitular friars began Tuesday with lauds in English and celebration of the Eucharist presided over by Friar Aniedi Okure, OP, Promoter General for Justice and Peace and Permanent Delegate to the United Nations (UN); concelebrated by Friar Isaac Mutelo, OP, of the Vice-Province of South Africa; Joseph Ellul, OP, of the Province of Saint Pius V of Malta, who, in line with the friar who preached yesterday, insisted on the discomfort to which the friars are called as prophets who seek to preach the truth.

The capitular friars began Monday with lauds in Spanish, and the celebration of the Eucharist, presided over by Friar Fabio Herrera, OP, of the Vice-Province of Santa Catalina de Siena of Ecuador and the homily by Friar Carlos Terán, OP, of the Province of San Juan Bautista of Peru, who exhorted the friars to be extraordinary signs of the Kingdom, according to three points: sense of vocation, inheritance of the Dominican tradition, and projection of the tasks to be carried out.

The capitular friars began Sunday with the lauds in English.  Then, they participated in the meeting with the Dominican Family in Mexico.  The friars, nuns, sisters of apostolic life, lay fraternities, and the Dominican Youth Movement (DYM), each shared about their charism and apostolate, in addition to an artistic performance.

Hope is grounded on a certainty that God will never abandon us

So if someone were to ask me if I am optimistic about our Order, my ready answer would be: “I am not at all optimistic, but I am very hopeful!” Hope is grounded on a certainty that God will never abandon us. This is what Paul tells the Colossians in the second reading this Sunday: “Christ in you, our hope of glory”.

Garrido, OP, superior of Casas Santo Domingo, Tultenango, seat of the General Chapter of Diffinitors.
